Writing Process

I am not quite sure what my ideal writing process is. I don’t enjoy writing too much, and I am a more of a math and science person, so every time that I have a writing assignment I find myself procrastinating until the last possible moment. In terms of setting, the place that I can focus the most on writing is alone in my room. I enjoy a quite serene environment, and maybe with music quietly playing in the background. Although I almost always end up procrastinating, I work best when there is no pressure, and I can take as long as I need to fully formulate my thoughts and ideas. The set up, and the way that I begin to put my ideas on to paper, is also just as important as the environment that I am writing in. I usually start with doing a little bit of background research on the topic that I am writing about. I then construct a my topic, or thesis sentence. From this topic sentence, I break my paper up into at least three parts, the introduction, the body, and the conclusion. I then break it down further, splitting the body portion of the writing into multiple parts. Then, I make a summary of each individual part and sub-part of the writing using bullet points and quotes if needed. After this point, I am all set up, and can begin writing, starting with the body, then writing the conclusion, and finishing with the introduction. My writing process does not really compare at all to what Ball, Loewe, and Lawson had to say. Ball and Loewe wrote about the importance of of revisions in writing, something that I rarely ever do, but something that I definitely need to do in order to make my writings better. Lawson’s writing really confused me, and I don’t think that I read anything about writing explicitly. Lawson wrote about the importance of sleep, and that is something that is definitely important, and could help you have a clear head, which would help you properly formulate your thoughts.
